Reddit Scam List

Well here’s a new one to me. It seems too obvious to work, but apparently it does.

Random twitter user or other social media poster reports that he or she has made a lot of money in crypto, and they want to give back to the community. They offer to give away 25 ETH or 10 BTC to random people. All you have to do is send their address a small amount of whatever crypto they are giving away to “confirm your address and make it easy” to send back your free coins.

So of course anyone who sends them money will never hear from them again. Some of these scams pop up with a username very similar to a well-known twitter user or a known crypto expert to make it look more legit.

Remember no random twitter or reddit user is giving away free money. Never respond to anyone who needs you to send them money. It’s just the crypto version of the telephone calls telling you won a free vacation, they just need a credit card to confirm. It’s a scam.

Stay safe and stay smart out there.

It’s my opinion that the prevalence of scams and the easy and repetitive exchange hacks have damaged whatever good reputation crypto has achieved over the final 6 months of 2017.

As new people poured money in, hacks and Ponzis ran off with their money. We shall see how bad the damage was by watching for a market turnaround. If one ever comes.

Scams—>people lose money—>confidence is eroded—>regulators step in to control scams—>experienced crypto investors cry foul—>more confidence erosion—>market free fall.

I have seen this one on Reddit a lot.

You are right to tell people to not sent money to strangers just because they promise something that you should know they won’t send.

Another I have seen is people offering to give you part of their bitcoin if you can help them remember a wallet password that they forgot. Or win a puzzle game and get bitcoin but you have to send them bitcoin to enter.

Too many scams.

It looks like these scammers are going to great lengths and are very inventive!
But it doesn't really take a super genius to see through that scam.
I'm sorry but if you fall for that Twitter scam, you probably shouldn't be dealing in Crypto Currency!
But yeah too many scams!

Many crypto buyers are very young and don’t understand how investment markets work. This generation thinks everything should happen fast and be easy, including making money. Nothing really works that way.

I didn’t know about the Laser online pyramid scheme until I started warning people about BitConnect. One of the laser online videos got recommended to me by YouTube so I watched it. I can’t believe people fall for any of these, but they do. Spreading the word here, on Reddit and everywhere else you can helps all investors. Some will argue with you though. People really want to believe in easy money.
