If you are trading in and out and it drops to $100, you will lose everything. If you’re trading in and out and miss a run up, you’re gaining nothing. If you’re shorting and price rises significantly, your losses are potentially unlimited. If you think you can get the ups and downs right most of the time, you’re wrong. Virtually no one can. Those who report their big trading gains tend to ignore their big losses. They leave that part out of their “proven trading strategy for getting rich quick” systems.

I don’t play any of those games. I invest for the long term in companies or projects I believe in. And the best way to save for the long term is to dollar cost average. Take a look at independent studies on the technique, the reduction of risk is greater than the slight loss of potential gains you would have if you were lucky enough to buy right at the bottom.

Plenty of money had been lost by timers and traders who think they can outwit the market. Before anyone decides to short term trade any asset, they should ask themself one question: How and in what ways am I smarter than all the others who’ve tried this and failed? OK two questions: If it’s that easy to get rich, why isn’t everyone driving Ferrari’s?

The richest people in the world got there by investing gradually over time, whether in stocks, real estate or even commodities.

You know we agree on a lot of things, but I’m not sure many investors go long or buy and hold in the commodities markets.

It’s more like when Billy Ray and Louis took down the Duke brothers in the frozen OJ markets.

I agree to invest a safer approach than short-term trading. But everyone has their own views on the market.

On April 2, bitcoin took off abruptly and began to cost $ 5,000. I would like to know: who opened a long position and what will happen next?

What tools have helped you determine this movement?

I haven’t been around here for awhile. I haven’t taken any new positions in Bitcoin but I also haven’t sold in over a year. Happy to see some new activity in the market prices.

Also looks like this site is growing a little but slowly. Price decline take away everyone’s interest in talking about crypto? Glad to see this is still here. I hate reddit. So much BS. Hope this site can expand. Hope to see more activity in the premium sections too.

Looks like we’ll celebrating “bitcoin gets back up to $6200 today” soon. Welcome back. Maybe you’re here for a good showing over the rest of 2019. It’s starting off like 2017.

I agree to invest a safer approach than short-term trading. But everyone has their own views on the market.

It’s also more tax friendly if you live in the US. Short term gains are taxed up to 37%, long term maxes out at 20%. And you can only use short term losses against short term gains and up to $3k income deduction, but any long term losses can reduce your taxable income by more.

Of course the whole idea is to not lose money anyway except when making some strategic trades to offset gains by design just for tax purposes.

Overall though only very experienced traders are going to beat market returns of dollar cost averaging over any period longer than a year.

By DCA, I mean investing a small amount at the same time every month or week ignoring price, not what some people think is DCA buying more as price drops to lower your cost basis. That isn’t DCA.

With the right approach, this will certainly bear fruit.

Let’s create a stickied bitcoin price discussion thread so we can follow the market ups and downs. I’ll start it here, if the head site man wants sticky it at the top and merge the other threads, he can do so. What say ye @The CC Forums?

Right now we’re at just under $10k. A nice gain from the summer but well off this year’s peak of $13k and still 50% lower than all time high.

What’s next?

I think that’s a very good idea. I’ll look around the site and pull together some of the other threads announcing bitcoin price.

We do need to tighten things up. No need to have 20 threads with the latest bitcoin price update.

Not a bad idea. Having threads everywhere on price didn’t make much sense. Will you be updating the title as prices change? How often? Daily or several times per day? Seems like a lot of work.

Well, is anyone buying this somewhat surprising dip today? I certainly did and may add a little more tomorrow when my cash transfer hits my exchange account.

$67k peak and no one has updated the thread?

Do you guys think $100k is reachable in 2022?
