The technological giant IBM has launched a new research center thanks to its partnership with Columbia University, an initiative that seeks to increase the development of blockchain applications in the educational environment.

The center, which opened on Monday, is located on the campus of Columbia University in New York and seeks, among other things, to cover applications based on blockchain with a combination of technical and academic expertise.

A group committed to Columbia faculty members and IBM scientists will begin reviewing proposals for the "development of blockchain curriculum, business initiatives and research programs" at some point this year.

Additionally, the center will advise on regulatory issues to startups of the blockchain community and provide internship opportunities to improve technical skills for students and professionals interested in technology.

John H Coatsworth, rector of the University of Columbia, said in the announcement that he hopes that this alliance "significantly enhances applications and scholarships", especially for the use of blockchain to share information. "Our students and faculty, working together with IBM, will play an important role in the vibrant exchange of ideas and research around this transformative technology," he added.

I wonder if IBM will encourage them to learn to develop decentralized blockchain apps or just train engineers to work with IBM and Amazon. :D
