Chainanalysis just posted a thorough report on crypto crimes in 2019. From dark web to scams to hacking, they summarize the numbers for all of it.

Scams were by far the highest category. The report covers money laundering and a host of other criminal activity. Long read, but worth at least a skim.imwas surprised scams were higher in 2019 than in 2017-18. It felt like they peaked during the market crash of 2018, and probably caused it. But the graph for mid-2019 dispels my personal guess on that.

That’s all fine to recognize and track, but the only fair way to look at it is how does it compare to the same crimes done with cash. Or credit card scams or stolen credit cards.

All currency is used for crime. Always has been and always will be. Centuries old problem but people act like crypto has all of a sudden caused crimes. Or made them happen more. I’d like to a chart on that. Crypto crimes vs USD crimes.
