Ripple and AMEX announced on Nov 16th that they have partnered to establish a cross-currency, cross-border payment exchange network. Initially XRP will not be used. However, it will “come into play” later.

• Payments made by American Express' business customers on its FXIP platform will now be routed through Ripple's enterprise blockchain network
• The blockchain project will initially allow customers in the U.S. to make instant, traceable cross-border payments with U.K. Santander bank accounts
• Ripple said that its cryptocurrency, XRP, will "come into play" as a means of speeding up payments later on down the line

XRP price initially surged 30% on this news but later pulled back from its highs.

Prolific blogger XRPHodor continues to put out great Ripple and XRP updates. I’m trying to get more balanced coverage of all cryptos for our sites, so I’m holding off on linking his recent posts on our front page. I don’t want this to be perceived as a place for shilling.
